On Wednesday 3 April 2019, architecture students from across the East Midlands came together for a one-day charrette hosted by Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment.

The twelve-strong line up of projects shortlisted for this year’s °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands Awards reflects a mix of the new and the historic including several conservation projects, as well as more contemporary interventions.

On Thursday 7 March, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019, °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands hosted a free event for existing and prospective members at New Art Exchange in Nottingham, a °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Award-winning Building by Hawkins\Brown.

The East Midlands welcomed °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ President Elect Alan Jones to the region recently for the first stop on his ‘road trip’ around the country before taking office in September.

In his final year as °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands Chair, Sam Culling gives an overview of events in the region for 2019.

This year the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands Education Group received a total of 14 submissions from the region’s °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ-validated schools of architecture for its student awards in Parts 1 and 2. The prize for Part 1 has been awarded to Ross Burns from the University of Nottingham and for Part 2 to Simon Green from the Leicester School of Architecture, De Montfort University.

On a very cold February morning, John Morgan, director at Leonard Design Architects, took a group of nine Year 3 Architecture students from The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University on a visit to see one of the practice’s projects.

Ben Derbyshire capped his visit to Nottingham on 9 March by officially opening Nottingham’s Urban Room.

Situated close to the Broadmarsh regeneration area, the space at 38 Carrington Street, is a partnership between the Nottingham and Derby Society of Architects, Nottingham City Council, Urban Design Group, Historic England, The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, with support from the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands office.

Fifteen buildings have been shortlisted for °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East Midlands 2018 Awards; the winners will be announced at an Awards evening at The Engineering Building at Leicester University on Thursday 17th May.
