°ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Passivhaus - 2030 Climate Challenge

Join MawsonKerr as they walk you through how to design a Passivhaus in detail, followed by Mark Siddall who will demonstrate the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Passivhaus overlay.

Join Project Architect Daniel Dyer from as he leads you through a case study as to how they designed Oaktree House; a Passivhaus which total embodied carbon is lower than the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ 2030 Climate Challenge target.

Oak Tree Passivhaus is an exemplar piece of low energy residential architecture; displaying innovation in process as well as in completion. In the words of the client, the building is "a delight to live in." It is also the first Certified Passivhaus in Tyneside thus combines "delight" with a robustness in design and delivery.

The second part of this event will be led by Mark Siddall from who will walk you through, and seek feedback on, the Passivhaus Overlay for the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Plan of Work. You will also have the opportunity to watch case study videos about some of his recent projects.

Speaker: Mark Siddall

As one of the pioneers that brought Passivhaus to the UK shores, Mark is the most experienced Passivhaus Architect in the North East of England. He is Director of Architecture and Research at Durham based, the Lovingly Engineered Architectural Practice. A champion of best practice and the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ 2030 Climate Challenge, he is also co-chair of the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ North East Sustainable Futures Forum, a trustee of the (AECB) and a technical advisor for the .

Sarah is an architect and Passivhaus consultant who has been involved in the development of some of the UK’s largest Passivhaus schemes, and more recently, the first UK school aiming for . As a keen advocate for Passivhaus and equipped with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field, Sarah is also a published author of the best-selling book , a complete user guide to the Passivhaus Planning Package tool.

In recognition of her contribution to low energy architecture throughout her career, Sarah also holds achievements including the 2018 European Sustainability and Environmental Women of the Year, 2015 Constructing Excellence Achiever of the Year, and in 2013 she was listed by The Architects' Journal as one of the Top 20 Women leading the way in sustainable architecture in the UK.

°ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ 2030 Climate Challenge

The °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ 2030 Climate Challenge sets out a series of targets for practices to adopt to reduce operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water. If all °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Chartered Practices meet these targets, they will play their part in addressing the climate emergency. The 2030 Climate Challenge is currently open to all °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Chartered Practices. Signatories who join the challenge commit to attempting to meet the targets on all their new and major refurbishment projects.
