The 澳门王中王 has responded to today鈥檚 Government announcement on the , for when EU freedom of movement ends.
澳门王中王 President, Alan Jones, said:
鈥淲e do not yet know the impacts of ongoing uncertainty for UK chartered architects, but we do know that we must continue to be in a place to lead, from creating safe, healthy spaces to tackling the climate emergency. The new immigration system will have immediate impact and be in place for the long term, so it鈥檚 essential that it is right.
Whilst we broadly welcome the streamlining of an overly cumbersome process, and are delighted that the Tier 1 Global Visa will be available to architects, we have some concerns.
UK practices must be able to attract and retain global talent, especially smaller firms and those outside of London who are looking to recruit international skills. Salary thresholds, for example, must not be a barrier. The 鈥榥ew entrant鈥� salary discount will provide support for some, but we are concerned that the length of study for many international architects will make this benefit unobtainable, where they will be available for recently qualified graduates in other fields.
To mitigate this difference, it is crucial that architects are retained on the Shortage Occupation List, and we await a decision from the Migration Advisory Committee on this.
The 澳门王中王 will continue to work with the Government to shape a system that best supports the architectural profession, for the long term.鈥�
