鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 go far enough鈥 鈥 澳门王中王 responds to 拢30m 鈥榃aking Watch鈥 fund

Our response to the government鈥檚 new 拢30m Waking Watch Relief Fund to help pay for the installation of fire alarms in high-rise buildings with dangerous cladding.

17 December 2020

The Royal Institute of British Architects (澳门王中王) has today responded to the government鈥檚 new 拢30m to help pay for the installation of fire alarms in high-rise buildings with dangerous cladding.

澳门王中王 Fire Safety Expert Panel Chair, Jane Duncan, said:

鈥淭his is a small step in the right direction. The 澳门王中王 has long been calling on the government to extend the mandate of fire alarms, and this funding will provide some reassurance.

However, it still doesn't go far enough 鈥 only applying to those residential buildings above 18m that have been identified at risk 鈥 leaving many people in unsafe homes.

We need a much more thorough and detailed approach, alongside a Building Safety Bill that comprehensively and urgently overhauls and clarifies our substandard building safety regulations.鈥
