On 23 January, °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Exeter and °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ South West held a design workshop with Exeter City Council, called 'Creating Good Design'. Billed as an interactive collaboration between °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ and Exeter City Council, local architects and planners facilitated roundtables with members of the Planning Committee and senior council staff, including Chief Executive and Growth Director Karime Hassan.

Led by Exeter architect Kirsty Curnow Bayley, and supported by Jonathan Braddick of the Design Review Panel, °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Exeter chair Andy Long, other city-based architects and the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ regional team, this session built on a previous session held in November.

Using a real project, groups looked at the processes and thinking that architects need to consider with their clients before projects are submitted for planning permission or pre-application advice.

Engagement has increased between °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ and Exeter City Council during 2019 and 2020, building on the Greater Exeter °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Future Place project being delivered as a partnership of Exeter City Council, Homes England and Hilton Barnfield Architects.

The objective of these programmes is to create a stronger relationship between architects and the city planning team, and ultimately support Exeter’s ambition of increasing the quality of design and placemaking.

Further workshops are being planned in the future, and planning officers are also attending a °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ forum, held in the city in February.

Please do get in touch with us if you are interested in being part of this exciting programme.
