澳门王中王 East Midlands programmed a series of events in celebration of International Women鈥檚 Day 2021 for existing and prospective 澳门王中王 members and students. The events were generously sponsored by . The speakers were chosen by the region鈥檚 two Women in Architecture groups and each event included an 'in conversation' discussion with a member of one of the groups.
The week began with , where Dr Frances Holliss discussed her research into the history of the "" and its particular relevance today. The event took place on International Women's Day (Monday, 8 March). Frances was joined in conversation by her former colleague, and Northamptonshire based architect, Yvonne Dean.
On Wednesday 10 March, Sharon Slinger FRICS CIWFM joined us for a to discuss her 20 year career in the construction industry and more recent experience as Director of , an equality, diversity and inclusion consultancy. Sharon was joined in conversation by Nottingham-based Architect and University of Nottingham lecturer, Alison Davies.
On Wednesday evening (10 March), architecture and landscape academic, Dr Nicole Porter, re-visited her observational drawing project, Artist-in-residence: drawing during lockdown, following two very successful workshops last year. In , Nicole again shared over 200 of her drawings, produced each day between March and October 2020, capturing the view from the first floor window of her terraced house.
The week was rounded off with a Friday (12 March) get-together of the region's two Women in Architecture groups and a series of informal presentations of members' A-Z of Architecture.
