Welcome to another exciting and varied programme of events in the East Midlands region for 2020. With a strong regional council, °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ regional team, dedicated branch presidents and members, it is going to be an interesting year ahead.
My hope is to further develop the fruitful synergies that exist between practice, research and education, benefitting members and the wider community alike, through successful initiatives such as Love Architecture, the Urban Rooms and community workshops as well as the great work being done with Architecture Schools, including the highly successful student mentoring programme.
The planned programme also includes region wide initiatives around my manifesto’s key themes that strengthen the regional conversation around important issues in architecture:
Collaborative practice
- Launch of °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ ‘collaborative practice’ contract
- Research in practice conference
Supporting small practices
- Small Practice clinics, featuring expert advice on common issues
- Why use an Architect marketing campaign
Education and the profession
- °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Compact – an agreement between °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ, Schools of Architecture, Chartered Practices and architecture students, during professional practice
- Apprenticeships, Schools of Architecture and Student engagement programme
Ethics and sustainable development
- Ethical and sustainable development overview on all projects
- °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ 2030 Climate Challenge
Wellbeing in the profession
- Events and activities targeting architects in practice and students
Community engagement
- Nottingham and Lincoln Urban Rooms
- Learning and Careers programme
Reflecting on my involvement with the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ, I originally got involved to:
- Develop a real world professional network that involved meeting people who I may work with and create opportunities for myself and others in the future
- Give something back to the community that I live in and give my time to inspiring people of all ages about the world that we live in
- Actively participate in improving what the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ has to offer in the region
These were personal reasons but they might inspire you to get involved. Without a doubt the passion and dedication of those involved from council, branch, schools and members is the reason why we are going from strength to strength in the East Midlands and hopefully you can participate in some way by attending an event or contacting your branch president to see how you can become more involved.
