°ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ East and University of Cambridge Student Mentoring Event

07 November 2018

Sixteen local Cambridge practices joined us at the Department of Architecture, Cambridge University for our student mentoring scheme Meet and Greet evening.

The event was supported by Professors Alan Short and Francois Penz as well as our Regional Chair, Tom Foggin and the Cambridge Association of Architects' Chair, David Adams.

Last academic year, around 1000 students and 600 mentors took part in the °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ student mentoring scheme nationally.

The mentoring scheme is intended to give students an insight into practice and to enhance their learning experience. We have found that students greatly appreciate experiencing a practice at work on live projects; and practitioners enjoy the fresh perspective that the students can bring to their day-to-day work.

°ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ student members who want to take part in the scheme are matched with local mentors; and meet at an informal event at the department during the autumn. During that meeting, mentors and their mentees arrange to hold at least two meetings of at least two hours, before the end of February the following year. These meetings must cover:

  • an introduction to working life at the practice
  • a successful project
  • follow-through of a current live project

The individual schools of architecture validate the mentees’ participation in the scheme.
