On Friday 20 October 2023, the Royal Institute of British Architects (澳门王中王) published its response to a on proposals intended to make local plans (and minerals and waste plans) simpler, faster to prepare, and more accessible.听

鈥淧roposals to simplify听and reform听local plans听are long overdue.听听

By setting a clear framework for the future of an area,听local plans provide authorities with a vital, holistic, long-term vision听for development.听Measures to听simplify the plan-making process,听by focusing on听specific听local needs and听priorities,听are most welcome. 听听听

These reforms, if done well, would go a long way towards speeding up the delivery of high-quality design outcomes, while promoting the critical role of architects.听听

However, to ensure that local authorities can meet ambitious timelines and maintain听best practice, the Government听must听also address the significant skills and capacity听gaps in planning teams up and down the country. Proposals must be bolstered with comprehensive resource to ensure high-quality plan-making听matches up to both current and future challenges.鈥
