House of Architecture: A note from the President

°ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ President Muyiwa Oki shares an update on House of Architecture

21 May 2024

Dear Members,ÌýÌý

Earlier this year I published my Biennial Plan titled ‘giving the next generation a reason to care about architecture’.ÌýÌý

For me, that means building a profession where everyone feels they belong, and where the public see architects and architecture as offering real solutions to their daily problems.ÌýÌý

It also means fostering a more engaged and diverse cohort of °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ Members who are confident leaders.ÌýÌý

To meet our full potential and future challenges, °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ needs all the capabilities of a high performing organisation. House of Architecture is about ensuring our foundations are secure, and we need your input.ÌýÌý

Following early member engagement, this week we’ve launched the first phase of our public consultation, including exhibitions at 66 Portland Place and °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ North, member webinars, and a new online survey.ÌýÌý

House of Architecture is the future of °ÄÃÅÍõÖÐÍõ.ÌýÌý

It’s a transformative programme to make architecture more accessible for everyone – our members, our profession, the world.ÌýÌý

  • It’s unlocking our world-class collections – bringing together over 4 million objects, stored in five disparate locations, and digitising the most fragile and valuable items so they can be accessed and enjoyed more widely than ever before.ÌýÌý
  • It’s significant investment in our digital technology, offering a vastly improved online experience and easy access to our knowledge, resources and support, from anywhere in the world.ÌýÌý
  • It’s making long overdue upgrades to our London headquarters – a case study in how to respectfully retrofit a heritage building, making it net-zero ready, accessible and welcoming for all.ÌýÌýÌý

This three-pronged investment will reinforce our identity as an outward looking cultural institution. It will ensure that we can encourage more people to care about architecture, by promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation, and by celebrating our members’ work.ÌýÌýÌý

Thank you to all of you who have shared your thoughts on our vision so far. It’s an ambitious programme, and we need your help to shape our plans, at every stage.ÌýÌý

Please take a moment to find out more, get involved and .ÌýÌý
