Matrix Partnership is recognised for delivering thoughtful and ingenious design solutions to clients on complex projects where conventional approaches do not go far enough.

MAPE new town, Sierra Leone. Masterplan for a new town to be constructed close to the capital city, Freetown. Planned and built on sustainable principles, it seeks to encourage the diaspora of Sierra Leonians to return to and reinvest in the country.

Matrix Partnership are driven by the need to address the challenges of urban renewal, changing user needs and the specifics of place. We practice with passion and commitment to high quality design, delivered through collaborative working, effective management, planning robustness and foresight.

What do you stand for?

We at Matrix are a diverse collection of architects, landscape architects, urban designers and creatives who work seamlessly across all our projects to ensure the best possible solution is achieved. We stand for quality, uniqueness and imaginative design that allows us to create bespoke solutions to our clients’ brief. We ensure that the end user is at the forefront of our design approach through considered architecture and public realm interventions.

What differentiate you from other architects?

Our approach and attitude to the site, location and end user separate us from other architects, through our design process we consider the landscape, setting and the overall context of each site is just as important as the architecture we create.

What projects are you currently working on?

We currently have a diverse range of projects that we are working on. These projects vary in both scale and complexity, and consist of a technical design package for a grade two listed building that we gain planning permission for the conversion into 129 student units and mixed used commercial.

We have a number of one-off houses that are in the development stages, our international (East Africa) projects are at various stages of the design process, we are currently halfway through the first phase of our 800k sqm masterplan development in Mombasa with the ground-breaking on the second high-rise.

We have just completed the technical design for a large hotel that we designed earlier in the year in Nairobi that is now in the tender stage, and we also have some exciting concept designs that we are developing on the edge of the Kenyan national park in Nairobi.

Why do clients come to you?

We believe that clients come to us, not only because of our experience, but because of our ability to understand our clients’ needs and the needs of the end user, our rigorous approach and considered style means that we are proud to have returning clients and commissions. We have a range of client types, predominantly we work with larger corporate clients including local governments and investment funds.

What have been the highlights for you in the past year?

Our highlight of the year would be the commission to provide the full designs and scope for a masterplan project that we started 12 years ago, along with few UK based projects that we had worked with the local planning authority for a number of years progressing.

What is your special focus for MIPIM 2024?

Our focus for MIPIM 2024 is to expand our international network, in particular investors and potential clients within the east Africa region.

Is there anything exciting on the horizon?

There are plenty of exciting projects on the horizon that we feel really make a difference to people's lives, these projects are helping to expand our international and UK presence.
