The successful competition design was by Expedition Engineering and Spence Associates.
The subsequent design was led by Expedition assisted by Arup Materials, Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering, Black & Veatch, Bridon, Cambridge University, Cleveland Bridge UK, Dorman Long Technology, Flint & Neill, Formlab, GCG, GERB, Imperial College, RWDI, Spence Associates, Speirs & Major, Stainton and William Cooke. White Young Green were Project Managers.
The competition was held in 2003 with expressions of interest invited for the design of a prestigious and distinctive landmark bridge across the River Tees in Stockton on Tees. A new bridge was needed to provide an integral link for pedestrians and cyclists between Teesdale Business Park and North Shore, a key regeneration area on the waterfront close to Stockton town centre.
The scheme provides a two span bridge consisting of two arches that blend into a single form and which support the deck by a series of cables. The bridge is 273m long and includes a 54m long southern approach with 5m wide reinforced concrete deck. The 38m long northern approach includes a viewing area and access to the river frontage.
