An architectural practice occupies the ground floor of a former Stationery shop in a Peckham neighbourhood.
Stepping inside you are greeted by a three storey entry hall accommodating a staircase down to the basement and a steel stair up to a meeting room on a mezzanine level. Every millimetre of space on this small rectangular site has been carefully designed so it works hard and is used effectively.
The excavated basement houses a kitchen, eating area, workshop, sample library, stationary storage and library.
Ground floor houses a small meeting room, WC and studio space for twelve workstations. The wellbeing of staff was carefully considered with natural light from two linear roof lights designed in such a way to avoid any glare on workstation screens. The room has two storage cupboards running down each side with cupboards for each worker behind their desks.
The workstations alone are a exquisite crafted invention for a stand-sit adjustable desks, and are easy of use.
A large south facing window faces onto the linear koi pond and the courtyard garden beyond. A mirrored brise soleil cuts out direct sunlight from computer screens and reflects the colourful koi carp in the pond.
From the outside you are greeted by a large concrete framed bay window which provides a shop-window facade. This facade inspires and delights passers - people everyday gaze into the shop window (office window), stroke the fake grass outside, take a photos of the front facade or knock on the door to come in and see whats inside. This building opens up the profession of architecture to a wider audience.
Absolutely every aspect of this office design has been thought about, exquisitely crafted and detailed. This building provides delight on a daily basis to those who see it.
